Three More Screenwriters Enlisted to Work on the ‘Avatar’ Sequels
We got some more information from the ‘Avatar’ sequel fronts. In the past last four years writer and director James Cameron (Battle Angel and The Informationist) has been hard at work on the the sci-fi follow ups with plans to film both ‘Avatar 2′ and ‘Avatar 3′ in the same time and then releasing them a year apart. We last heard that Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and The Black Dahlia) has been hired on to work on the screenplay to ‘Avatar 2′. Today Fox reveals that Cameron has actually enlisted the help of four screenwriters to collaborate with on not only ‘Avatar 2′ and ‘Avatar 3′, but also ‘Avatar 4′.
Along with the recently hired Friedman are screenwriters Rick Jaffa (Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Amanda Silver (Jurassic Park IV and The Relic), and Shane Salerno (The Power of the Dog and Savages) has been enlisted to work on the screenplays that will, “help bring his growing Avatar universe to life and to expedite the process.” Fox also reveals that ‘Avatar 2′ is set for release in December 2016, ‘Avatar 3′ to release in December 2017, and ‘Avatar 4′ slated a year later.
All three films are to be filmed simultaneously with production set to begin next year. Cameron had the following to say regarding the news;
“Building upon the world we created with Avatar has been a rare and incredibly rewarding experience. In writing the new films, I’ve come to realize that Avatar’s world, story and characters have become even richer than I anticipated, and it became apparent that two films would not be enough to capture everything I wanted to put on screen. And to help me continue to expand this universe, I’m pleased to bring aboard Amanda, Rick, Shane and Josh — all writers I’ve long admired - to join me in completing the films screenplays.”
