Announced back in May producers Roberto Orci (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Star Trek) and Alex Kurtzman (Ender’s Game and Cowboys & Aliens) is developing reboots for ‘The Mummy’ and Van Helsing (which Tom Cruise will star in). Things are starting to heat up with director Len Wiseman (Underworld and Total Recall) now attached to direct The Mummy. The script is currently being written by Jon Spaihts the co-writer of Prometheus. In an interview with Deadline Wiseman was said;

“When I first heard Universal was relaunching this, that is the image that popped into my head, the period tale, the old monster, but when Bob and Alex pitched it, there was a great new take and approach, and a very different mummy as well. It’s a darker twist on the material, a scarier version.”

Kurtman also notes that this reboot will firmly have roots connected with the original film and said, “at its beating heart is a horror movie and then an action movie.” Universal looks to be eager with this project and aims for a 2014 release which would mean production would start sometime next year. Not much is known about this project currently but hoping we’ll hear something though the grape vine soon.
